Not The Big Snooze

On Friday 23rd March, we held our sponsored sleep out, Not the Big Snooze, at Leicestershire County Cricket Club. Over 40 people signed up to sleep out under the stars, raising awareness of homelessness in Leicester.

All of the participants were welcomed by a group of Action Homeless service users who volunteered as stewards for the event. We were also joined by a group of volunteers from the University of Leicester’s Contact Student Volunteers who helped to register everyone taking part and ran some games and activities later in the evening.

After a delivery of hot soup, people began to bed down with their sleeping bags, blankets and sheets of cardboard and attempted to get some sleep.

Teams from Highcross Leicester, Leicestershire Aids Support Services (LASS) and Action Trust were amongst those taking part. Amy, a student at University of Leicester said ‘thank you for organising such a great event. I felt very well looked after! I would recommend this to anyone.'

With sponsorship money still to come in, we hope to have raised over £2000 which will enable us to exceed our winter appeal target of raising £10,000 to provide extra emergency beds for rough sleepers in 2012.
