Vulnerable Housing Journey
Hiding in the Open - Vulnerable Housing Journey
Following on from last year's 'Hiding in the Open', the Reverend Tim Blewett continued his journey through homelessness by spending the week living in the hostel system. His week began on Monday 21st November with a two night stay at Action Homeless' assesment hostel, Mayfield House. He then moved to The Hollies, a smaller Action Homeless project before moving in for the night with one of our ex residents to experience a typical move on flat.
The purpose of Tim's journey was to highlight the process that people have to go through once they have entered the hostel system and how Action Homeless is providing support to those people whilst they are living in temporary accomodation. As well as experiencing different supported housing projects, Tim took part in a number of activities and events that took place during the week including a trip to the Outdoor Pursuits Centre, the Action Homeless AGM and an 'It's Your Move' training session at our new harm reduction suite, Engage.
Tim also spent one day with the Action Clean and Action Paint team. Action Clean and Action Paint are social enterprises that Action Homeless have created in partnership with Apex Works, The TREES Group and Glen Parva Young Offenders Institute. Action Clean and Action Paint aim to reduce re-offending and homelessness by offering training and employment opportunities to ex-offenders and people that have been affected by homelessness.
During the week, Tim shared his thoughts on twitter and on his blog
