£4,200 in funding from National Grid to help people experiencing homelessness stay warm this winter
Action Homeless are pleased to announce that £4,200 in funding from the National Grid Community Matters Fund is allowing us to provide ‘warm packs’ to people who are experiencing homelessness and help those who are using our services stay warm this winter. Thanks to this funding we have been able to continue to offer our community living room (Engage) as a warm space open five days a week to all of our clients, where people can come and spend time and have a warm drink and a snack. We have also been distributing ‘warm packs’ from our centrally located community living room to clients across our services.
The ‘warm packs’ are available to both families and individuals and contain items such as blankets, warm socks and hand warmers for all members of the household, draught excluders, thick curtains, rugs and radiator foil and radiator keys (where required).
The packs also contain an invitation to attend our warm space at Engage, which we are able to provide transport to and from free of charge, thanks to an existing grant. We are also providing ongoing advice and support on energy saving at our Engage wellbeing Hub, and predict 50 people living in our temporary accommodation will receive advice on how to get the most out of the packs by the end of March 2026.
This funding will mean that 110 vulnerable households will receive a warm pack, and we estimate that 30 people experiencing homelessness will access the warm space events at Engage, providing further opportunities for warmth, connection and personalised support.
We would like to say a huge thank you to National Grid for their much needed support. You can find out more about the Community Matters Fund here.
