JERZY*

Flexible and personalised support with stable accommodation for the future

Jerzy came to Action Homeless after his father passed away and the house they both lived in had to be sold. After a brief period of street homelessness and staying in a local overnight hostel, he was referred to support at Action Homeless. Jerzy’s mental health had declined massively after the loss of his father, and he felt uncertain about his housing situation and what to expect from living in temporary accommodation. He also lost the majority of his positive social connections and support network when he lost his home, and as a result of this felt very isolated.

When he arrived at Action Homeless, Jerzy was referred to our A+ team and was able to move into a property that offered him some longer term stability, but still support when needed.

Thanks to dedicated support from his support worker, Jerzy now feels more stable in his housing situation. Although he still struggles with his mental health, he tries to combat this by getting out of the house every day and keeping occupied. He regularly attends sessions at our Engage Wellbeing Hub, such as our quizzes and men’s mental health sessions. He also knows that even if there isn’t a session on, he can still pop in during the drop in times and have a cup of tea and a chat.

Jerzy has benefited from the support of our A+ team, who help clients to manage their own tenancies, but also provide the opportunity to check in and receive support when needed. He has been living with Action Homeless for just over seven years now, and really appreciates the flexibility of the support that has been provided, and the peace of mind it has given him about his housing situation and the future.
