Home Essentials Hub Series: Mo
The Home Essentials Hub has been launched in Leicester to help those who are moving into their own home after a period of homelessness, providing people with everything they need to set up a home including white goods, furniture and flooring. This is an exciting new partnership initiative led by local Leicester charities Open Hands, Action Homeless and One Roof Leicester. It is supported by Leicester’s Homelessness Charter and funded by Leicester City Council and the National Lottery Awards for All.

This series of case studies shares the stories of people who have benefitted from the support of the Home Essentials Hub.
Mo came to Action Homeless after a long period of struggling with his mental health. For some time, he found it difficult to stay in his room or engage fully with services, and this made daily life challenging. Despite these difficulties, Mo showed remarkable determination. With the consistent support of staff and mental health services, Mo began to grow in confidence and stability. Over time, he settled more comfortably into his environment, built trusting relationships with his support workers, and started to believe in his own ability to live independently. This shift marked the beginning of a new chapter for him.
As Mo became more engaged, his dream of having a home of his own moved closer to reality. When he was offered a property Mo continued to work on himself to put himself in the best position to move on.
Throughout everything, Mo continued to save small amounts of money, imagining he would finally have his own place. Thanks to the Home Essentials Hub, Mo was given the basic furniture items he needed to turn his flat into a home. For someone who had issues with staying in their own room, the project played an important part in enabling him to immediately settle in to his new place and make it a home. His savings have allowed him to personalise his space further by purchasing his own decorating supplies and flooring.

Mo is now happily settled in his new place, enjoying the freedom and comfort he worked so hard to achieve. With a secure foundation beneath him, Mo is looking forward to the future with more confidence than ever.
