Home Essentials Hub Series: Leon
The Home Essentials Hub has been launched in Leicester to help those who are moving into their own home after a period of homelessness, providing people with everything they need to set up a home including white goods, furniture and flooring. This is an exciting new partnership initiative led by local Leicester charities Open Hands, Action Homeless and One Roof Leicester. It is supported by Leicester’s Homelessness Charter and funded by Leicester City Council and the National Lottery Awards for All.
You can find more information on the project here.
This series of case studies shares the stories of people who have benefitted from the support of the Home Essentials Hub.
Leon came to Action Homeless in the summer of 2025 as a result of health and mobility issues which caused him to become homeless. Whilst living in temporary accommodation, Leon was supported to address his health concerns and took time to focus on improving his mental and physical wellbeing. He learnt how to cook for himself and how he could access additional support in the community. After several months, he was able to secure himself his own property.
“I was so excited to move thanks to the Home Essentials Scheme, all my furniture arrived really quickly- some before I even moved in. The scheme let me move at my own pace and considered my mobility issues, I am much better off thanks to the Home Essentials furniture and support”
Leon was particularly concerned about how his health and mobility issues might affect his move to a new home. Thanks to the Home Essentials Hub, Leon was able to furnish and prepare his property to ensure he could live fully and comfortably.
