Dedicated support for individuals with longer histories of homelessness
Adam had been rough sleeping due to a family breakdown, and sought support from a drop-in service provided by a local charity that provides support to people experiencing homelessness in Leicester. He was referred to Action Homeless for further support and safe accommodation. His key worker worked with him to assess his individual support needs and took steps to help him to engage with the range of support Action Homeless could provide.
However, due to having a long history of homelessness and struggling with his mental health, Adam stopped engaging with his key worker at Action Homeless. He did not have a mobile phone, and so support staff were not able to reach him. He was close to losing access to the safe accommodation provided by Action Homeless as he was not engaging at all with the support provided.
Luckily, Adam was still presenting at the local drop-in service on a regular enough basis that the staff at the charity were able to make contact with Adam’s key worker at Action Homeless and take steps to help him re engage with personalised support and return to safe and stable accommodation. With perseverance from both the local drop-in service staff and his key worker at Action Homeless, Adam is now back in safe accommodation. He is aware of the full range of support he is entitled to, and is engaging in a more proactive manager. Steps were also taken to access existing funding and grants to get Adam a phone and SIM card, ensuring he could be contacted by his key worker and avoiding repeat instances of homelessness in the future.
