We are currently looking to recruit two Homeless Services Officers, one in our Low Support and Resettlement Team and one in our Rough Sleeper Team.

As a Homeless Service Officer, you will be part of a wider team operating across various locations throughout Leicester City. Your role will be the delivery of our day-to-day homeless services with the aim of achieving more independent living for each of our clients. You will work alongside all of Action Homeless services, ensuring that the appropriate support is provided and that the living conditions offered are of high quality and safe.

If you are successful in joining our Low Support and Resettlement Team, you will help people move quickly from temporary accommodation into stable housing. You will provide intensive housing management support to enable clients to sustain their accommodation in our shared housing across the City. You’ll work with a diverse range of clients and be able to communicate confidently with people from different backgrounds.

If you are successful in joining our Rough Sleeper Team, you will work in a fast-paced environment, providing intensive housing management and tailored support to help people with multiple disadvantages settle into and maintain accommodation. You will work closely with partner agencies, including health, substance misuse, and probation services, to support positive outcomes.

Whilst the two services that we are currently recruiting Homeless Services Officers for offer different challenges and opportunities, the core duties and skills required of a Homeless Services Officer remain the same. Placement into one of our services is determined through the skills and experience that you demonstrate through your application and interview.

 Some of the other key duties for all Homeless Service Officer roles will include:

  • Being the initial point of contact for clients
  • Creating a safe living environment though regular health and safety checks and maintenance management
  • Supporting clients with their benefit claim including, housing benefit and rent management
  • Completing client coaching plans and assisting clients through their journey with us
  • Participating in activities and workshops held for our client groups
  • Providing advocacy and liaising with external agencies on behalf of clients
  • Completing administration including our client database

As a Homeless Service Officer, you may be required to work as part of a shift rota and to participate in the organisation’s out-of-hour on-call process.

How you will be developed

Action Homeless invests in its employees and strives for its employees to train, learn and develop throughout their employment. As part of this role, you will receive ongoing training in areas identified as key for your roles development and we offer the opportunity for you to apply to undertake the Chartered Institute of Housing in Homeless Services level 3 once you have been in our employment at least 12 months.

We will work with you through your probationary period and during this period you will be assessed against a competency framework for your role, this enables you to demonstrate that you can carry out all aspects of the Homeless Service Officer role.

What we are looking for

  • Previous experience of working within homeless services or within housing sector or strong transferrable skills relating to the job description or lived experience.
  • Enthusiasm to work within homeless services and make a difference
  • Good IT and communication skills
  • Understanding of professional boundaries and Health and Safety
