Capital funding boost to aid Veteran’s homelessness

Here at Action Homeless we are excited to update you on the launch of a brand new project we’ve been working on, which is designed exclusively to help armed forces Veterans who are experiencing homelessness in Leicester.

The project will be launching later this year, and has been made possible through a second, supplementary grant that we received from The Armed Forces Covenant Trust, thanks to the Office for Veterans’ Affairs’ Veterans’ Capital Housing Fund. This additional funding will enable us to offer support to more Veterans who are experiencing homelessness in Leicester.

The project will offer six high quality living spaces with ensuite bathrooms, and we’re working with Probus Construction Ltd to completely transform one of our existing properties. We are creating high quality housing which offers stability and promotes wellbeing.

The project will provide opportunities for Veterans to connect with one another, and we’re developing vibrant communal spaces within the project (indoor and out) which will help people to come together and encourage peer support. Clients will also get support to navigate future housing options and help towards securing a permanent home in the community, as well as access to our Community Lounge and its jam-packed programme of activities, workshops, training and social events.

The overall aim of the project is to prevent a cycle of homelessness from developing and to give Veterans the safety and security of a safe home. As part of Action Homeless’ wider commitment to the armed forces community, we have also signed The Armed Forces Covenant which details our pledge to recognising those who have performed military duty and the value of their contribution.
