Families wishing for a home this Christmas

This Christmas, while many of us are dashing to the shops and planning festive meals, over 170,000 children in England will wake up in temporary accommodation—without a home of their own.

Imagine trying to create festive magic in a single hotel room, with no kitchen to cook a warm meal and no space for a tree. For lots of families, this is the reality of homelessness. Even the simplest traditions—putting up decorations or enjoying a festive meal—are out of reach for families without a permanent home. At our Family Open Space, we hear heart-breaking stories:

“My daughter misses home cooked meals so much.”
“My little one is always asking me when we’ll have our own house and it is hard because I just can’t give an honest answer.”

Parents tell us about the worry of not knowing when they’ll find a secure home, the isolation they feel, and the challenges of raising young children in cramped spaces.

What is Action Homeless doing?

With your support, we’re working to break the cycle of homelessness by providing:

  • Safe Homes
Temporary and permanent homes that give families stability, privacy, and dignity.
  • Personalised Support
Our Building Blocks service, funded by The National Lottery Community Fund, helps children feel secure, build positive relationships, and express emotions—minimising the impact of homelessness.
  • Opportunities for Connection
Regular Family Open Space sessions, delivered with The Bridge, offer families a freshly cooked meal, wellbeing activities, and a chance to connect with others.

And this festive season, thanks to our donors, we’re making Christmas a little brighter with gifts and experiences for families facing homelessness.
