Funding from the Arnold Clark Community Fund to provide essentials
Action Homeless are delighted to have received funding from Arnold Clark as part of their Cost of Living Support. The £1,000 in funding that we have received will allow us to meet people’s basic and practical needs when they first arrive in our accommodation after a period of homelessness.
Around 40% of people we’ll support will have slept rough recently which is a harrowing experience, and is both emotionally and physically damaging. They will often arrive with no belongings or possessions of their own.
The funding will enable us to purchase bulk quantities of non-perishable food and basic toiletries keep our Emergency Food Pantry and Hygiene Pantry topped up. We will also provide essentials such as towels, new underwear and socks and basic clothing and footwear for anyone that needs them.
We will utilise our Engage Wellbeing Hub as a central point to distribute these essential items for people who have just arrived with us. Providing people who have experienced rough sleeping with essential items that give them a sense of dignity and comfort is a vital first step in working to break the cycle of homelessness. Our Engage Wellbeing Hub also provides opportunities for peer and community connection, as well as support with applying for more permanent housing, basic IT needs and other dedicated sessions throughout the year.
