Tacking Food Poverty In The City
The second annual ‘Tackling Food Poverty’ event will be taking place on Wednesday 22nd February 2017 at The Big Shed in Leicester. The event will be hosted by Action Homeless and will consider how the Leicester City Council, charities and local community projects can work in partnership to respond to and prevent food poverty in the city. Action Homeless will also reveal the results from last year’s Annual Food Bank User Survey, which will offer an important review on the progress of the Food Bank service across the year. The event is open to the public and all are welcome to attend.
With a growing reliance on food banks in the city and the increasing need to relieve those suffering from hunger, ‘Tackling Food Poverty’ serves to highlight the need for a community-wide response to aid those in crisis.
The event is also a chance to listen to expert opinions on the issues of food poverty and will be attended by local city councillors and the National Director of Feeding Britain, Rosie Oglesby. Feeding Britain was established to act on MPs’ and Peers’ recommendations on nationwide hunger. It strives to achieve a hunger-free Britain by 2020. Rosie will be presenting her views on the growing issues of food poverty nationwide and discussing how Feeding Britain works in partnership with local projects to tackle the growing demand for food bank services. Attendees will also have the opportunity to share their own views on the following topics:

- The City Council’s new Emergency Food Plan
- Developing a sustainable and affordable Food Project for the city
- Impact of welfare reform on the city and how to meet the challenges
