Sue Billington was born and raised in Leicester city, grew up on a council estate and was educated at a local Grammar School. She worked for BT for 35 years as a senior manager gaining a reputation for making a difference. After leaving BT, Sue attended the University of Leicester as a mature student and gained a first-class honours degree, and a master’s degree. She was a governor and trustee at New College Leicester for 17 years playing a key role in the transformation of the school from being labelled ‘the worst school in the country’ to being Ofsted rated as Good; providing opportunities for children in one of the most deprived areas of the city. She believes that poverty should not inhibit the availability of a home, education, and opportunities as these are the basic rights of all individuals. Sue is an experienced Chair and will devote her time and skills to supporting Action Homeless to break the cycle of homelessness in Leicester. Sue joined as Chair in November 2023.
